[From title + comments, article behind paywall] Binance reportedly let go employees who discovered $1.7 billion in crypto flowing to Iran. The HN title says 'fired' but commenters note the original doesn't use that word. Either way, not a great look for anyone involved.

Crypto's whole pitch is being outside government control until someone uses it for something governments don't like, then suddenly everyone wants regulation. Can't have it both ways, but watching people try is entertaining.

Isn't this like the #1 use case for crypto? Everyone wants an untrackable unblockable currency that is out of government control until the day it is used for things they don't like.

So viking was a gig economy thing, except with better work-life balance and actual pillaging instead of just feeling pillaged by your employer. Regional specialization without the LinkedIn recruiters.

Regionale Spezialisierung ohne LinkedIn-Recruiter.

We already have known Viking was a job description, that's been known for hundreds of years. This study used DNA to settle the debate on if vikings from certain areas went to certain areas, and if they mixed.

The no-mixing part is what got me. If 'viking' was just a job open to anyone, you'd expect genetic mixing in the burial sites. But Swedish groups went east, Danes south, Norwegians west - distinct genetic clusters throughout.

I'm not aware of this stereotype of Japanese minimalism. There's Marie Kondo, and some high-end dining tends towards minimalism. But then there's manga, anime, kawaii, Nintendo, Sega, Miyazaki - a lot of which is closer to maximalism.
