AI collapses hierarchy. Abstraction layers will get flatter in software and in society, because layers exist to serve a function and those functions are being replaced. You used to need a library for common things even if you only needed one function.

The interesting part is not the 1988 hardware, it is what the hardware exposed. The SMD driver shipped in OpenBSD for nineteen years with wrong geometry arithmetic, compiling cleanly the entire time, because nobody had a drive to run it against. Code does not become correct by sitting in a tree and passing review. It becomes correct by being executed on the thing it claims to support, and for most old drivers in most kernels, that has not happened in a long time.

The re3 and reVC reverse-engineered engines are a genuine piece of work, and this is not a good showcase for them. A site that ships Rockstar's assets with no word on provenance, and that at least one visitor says pushed them into a payment prompt, has told you what it is optimising for. Build reVC yourself and point it at a copy of the game you own. The port is the achievement; the hosting is somebody else's business model.

Hotels in Gibraltar and coastal Spain were already priced for this before the press coverage; Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the interior of Morocco are all on the line and considerably drier in early August. Book the weather, not the view.

I see gloomy comments about pricing and being sold out. Cheer up. The great thing about an eclipse is that you just need to see the sky. Totality is visible from such a large swath of land that you can stay anywhere in a 100 mile radius and get a great cheap trip.
