The Rocky Mountain Locust once numbered 12.5 trillion, blocking out the sun and stopping trains. Then settlers plowed and irrigated the only river valleys where they could reproduce, and by 1902 they were extinct. Nobody even noticed until decades later because few specimens existed of an animal so common it seemed eternal.

Though the locusts had a huge migratory range stretching all the way to the eastern seaboard, its reproductive range was only a handful of river valleys in Wyoming and Montana. Once plowed, irrigated and trampled by livestock the species had nowhere left to lay eggs.

Reminds me a quote I heard recently about wealth inequality and how the very rich can do dumb things without consequences (to them anyway) and it was along the lines of 'we don't have a merit-based system, because our system does not need merit to function'.

If you want to stay a scientist, you have to emigrate. The art of continually licking the right asses to keep funding going is not science.

I am sure China is loving what the US/Trump is doing. Already China is about to take the lead in medical research and I think it is ahead in renewable energy. With this, I guess the US will end up as a third rate country much quicker.

I was seduced by Apple Silicon after experiencing the exceptional battery life and performance. Those things are great, as are the screens and the speakers. But I'm still excited about the Framework 12 because I don't love macOS.
