Old English had 'dual pronouns' for exactly two people: wit (we two), unker (of us two), and git (you two). These grammatical forms for intimate pairs died out after the Norman Conquest, leaving modern English with no way to express 'just the two of us' in a single word.

English used to have dual pronouns, proper accusatives and genitives, formal/informal 2nd person pronouns and quite a few other things that come up when you learn French or Latin.
