39C3 researchers found that Airoha-based Bluetooth chips in Sony WH1000-XM5/6, Marshall, Beyerdynamic, and Jabra headphones have a custom protocol called RACE that lets any unauthenticated attacker dump firmware, steal Bluetooth link keys, and potentially compromise paired phones. Three CVEs: CVE-2025-20700, CVE-2025-20701, CVE-2025-20702.

Everyone got mad at OpenBSD for refusing to develop bluetooth. It's a messy standard and we shouldn't be surprised that the race to the bottom has left some major gaps.

Meta calculated that proper advertiser verification would cost $2B and cut revenue by 5%. Instead, they made scam ads harder for regulators and journalists to find while keeping them visible to users. The tactic worked so well it became their global playbook. About 10% of 2024 revenue reportedly came from scam-linked ads.
