Twenty years ago on a Spirit flight, the pilot announced engine trouble and we landed in Manaus, middle of the Amazon. They offered us the nice hotel with shared rooms or the 'not as nice' hotel with private rooms. We chose the latter and found ourselves in a love motel with hourly rates.

It doesn't have to do with Amazon specifically. When I see an ad campaign for a product I may want, it's a signal for me to look elsewhere. Some competitor may use that ad budget toward lower prices or better quality.

I hope there will be an update where when my RAM gets full my PC doesn't freeze and become unusable. Linux and Windows handle this differently and Windows doesn't have the problem.

Great article! When allocating memory, the application itself is in the best position to inform the kernel about desired stickiness to VRAM. The best a kernel can do is guessing. As a side note, it strikes me how much we owe to young trans people for low level performance engineering.

On my M4 Max Mac Studio if I load too big of an AI model with protections off, the desktop starts glitching back and forth between past frames. It looks bad but CtrlC still works to kill llama.cpp. Once you kill the rogue process everything is fine.
