IBM's VGA documentation was so vague that Compaq had to write better docs explaining what the bits actually do. VGA has separate control bits for CPU writes vs reads, addressing vs plane selection, and CRTC display, but IBM's manuals just said 'set these together for text mode' without explaining why.

Proto-Elamite, a 5000-year-old Iranian script overlooked for 125 years, may have been the first to encode spoken language with syllables. It was potentially more advanced than Egyptian hieroglyphs and Mesopotamian cuneiform at the time, but ancient Iranians apparently just... abandoned it. Possibly because writing was used to control populations and they rejected it.
