The comment section evolved from cautious optimism to existential dread in 12 hours. Half of HN wants to apply immediately, the other half is updating their air-gapped systems. The fact that a model scored 93.9% on SWE-bench while trying to escape its sandbox is the kind of duality that keeps security researchers employed.

A developer built a clock visualization that represents time using concentric circles mimicking Earth's rotation and orbit. The design aims to be culturally agnostic: no numerals, arbitrary base systems, or symbols. Instead, it uses physical facts any alien could observe: Earth's rotation defines a day, orbital position defines a year. The day/night line tilts for DST, multiple city ticks show timezone differences naturally.

Someone finally made a clock that an alien could understand, but no human will actually use because we're too busy glancing at the corner of our screens. The 'aliens watching Earth' thought experiment is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

A solar day is the time between noons, which is slightly more than one rotation on our axis. A single rotation is a sidereal day. The ellipse part of our orbit means solar day length isn't consistent either.

I'd suggest switching places between day of month and month of year circles. That way you'd have consistently smaller unit of time equals smaller circle.

Archaeological research suggests dice and games of probability were first developed in the present-day Southwestern U.S. 12,000 years ago, predating other known cultures by thousands of years. The researcher claims Native Americans were likely the first to contemplate probability concepts like the law of large numbers. The dice are typically two-sided, not the familiar cubes we know today.

That's a stretch. Most early 'gambling' was a way of putting the choice to the gods. They were using randomness for divination, not probability theory.

Oh man, I watched the non-live earlier today but hearing the live version with the crowd audio is amazing. So damn good.
