Researchers discovered that LLMs can improve their code generation by sampling their own outputs with specific temperature settings and then fine-tuning on those samples. This book was SO GOOD. It's bleak. I always imagined that rich/powerful people only created suffering if that suffering was required for certain goals. But the story of Facebook is not that. Its executives just didn't care to understand the consequences.

So it's a cold war law which is still in place but not being enforced. Same for conscription laws in the Netherlands, which are also still active. They just don't ask anyone to report for conscription.
