One thing that surprised me when digging into Apple Photos is how much state isn't represented by just files-on-disk. Albums, Live Photos, bursts, slo-mo, edits, even 'simple' things like adjusted capture dates are all tracked separately.

Gentoo is the best! Once you get the hang of creating a bootable system, it feels like Linux from Scratch just without needing to manually build everything. I automated building system images with just podman and qemu.

Lidars come down in price ~40x. Meanwhile visible light based tech is going up in price due to competing with AI on the extra GPU need. If you had to choose one or the other for cost you'd be insane to choose vision over lidar.
