Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation' music video contained a frequency matching the resonant frequency of 5400 rpm laptop hard drives. Playing the video would crash laptops, and even nearby laptops not playing the video would crash from the sound. Manufacturers had to add audio filters to remove the offending frequency.

Clock synchronization across distributed systems is impossibly hard because there's no global clock, quartz oscillators drift due to temperature and manufacturing variations, and network delays are asymmetric. Different systems need wildly different precision - web services can tolerate milliseconds, financial trading needs microseconds, and scientific experiments require nanoseconds.

This is only true if you use wall clock time in your consistency algorithm. Generally I think this is a huge mistake. It's almost always easier to use logical clocks.

On the flipside, clock sync for civilians has never been easier. Thanks to NTP any device with internet can get time accurate to 10ms.
